He considers that the three meanings of the `body'the `soul' and the `spirit' are found in the Bible just as human beings consist of the body, the spirit and the soul. For the latter two meanings it is indispensable to interpret the Scripture allegorically. He interprets the whole Song of Songs allegorically. However, in the case of Romans, he reads it more historically. While individual expressions are occasionally interpreted allegorically, Romans on the whole is approached historically.He understands Paul as an arbiter of Jews and Gentiles. He argues against Marcion and Gnosticism when he interprets the text of Romans.
