Chester Beatty II and P. Michigan inv. 6238. It　is the earliest codex of the Pauline epistles. The details of its provenance　are uncertain since a dealer from Cairo sold the manuscripts in different　batches. P. 46 is usually dated about A.D. 200. As was common among early Christian manuscripts, its format is a codex, and nomina sacra are found there. The fact that this is the earliest manuscript of the Pauline epistles does not necessarily make this the most reliable manuscript of the Pauline texts. However, the manuscript reveals something about the way scribe copied the manuscript. We can learn the kinds of mistakes scribes tend to make, how these mistakes can be recognized and corrected, and so on.
